Nadia Comaneci - (born on 12th November, 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej / Now Onesti, Romania), Romanian gymnast. The first person in history to achieve a score of 10 in a competition at the Olympics. Comaneci was first discovered by Bela Karolyi who was later her Romanian gymnastics instructor when she was just six years old. First competing in the national junior championships in Romania in the year 1969, she finished 13th. Then in the year 1970, she was crowned champion. She took home three golds at her first competition in a junior pre-Olympic meeting in 1972 for communist bloc countries. Between 1973 and 1974, she was the junior champion in all-round competitions. In her first international competition as a senior athlete in the year 1975, she beat out Russian Lyudmila Turishcheva the five-time European champion winning four gold medals as well as one silver.
