Adams was raised in Castle Rock Colorado, as the youngest of seven children. Her father served in U.S. service in Italy. At the end of the 1990s, she began performing professionally and dancing at Boulder's Dinner Theatre and Country Dinner Playhouse. Then she moved to Minnesota and was cast in Drop Dead Gorgeous, a mock documentary film that explored beauty contests. Her move into Los Angeles after making her debut in the screen with an innocent, but funny contestant. Also, she raised Kelly Curtis, Jamie Lee Curtis. Leigh was discovered by actress Norma Shearer and signed a contract to be a part of MGM in the late 1940s. Leigh was a star in a variety of films that became popular over the following decade, such as Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (from 1960) and Living It Up (1954), starring Martin Lewis.
